| | wolves kill much smaller animals. I saw the video where the wolf couldnt fight off the much smaller wolverine for food. I dont see much evidence of them being fighters. Living in the wild doesnt make them fighters. A game hog hunting AB vs. a wolf of similar size I have to go with the AB | ||

| MD Administrator | bulltaterbullies wrote ... Anyone can believe anything. However - have you ever seen a volkadav or wolfdog? Does any of them look like the breeds you mentioned? There is a reason for it. I believe there are many breeds that could take down a wolf. Pit, AB, DO, PC,CC,Rot, etc. | ||

| | this subject has been beaten to death several times before on MD. A healthy North American Wolf forced to defend itself will take out just about any dog. A pit bull is certainly no match for a wolf. One would quickly end up as chunks in the wolf's stool. I don't think any of you realize what a healthy wolf can do. So the post below is reinserted here again for a third time to address this subject. Below is text from a post I made on another thread about wolf killers. I thought that in addition to the examples of what wolves are capable of uploaded by Mike that you all would be interested in the observations of US government wolf trappers. I know that there is documentation of individual dogs taking out European wolves but I am unaware of any records of individual dogs killing a wolf in North America. So speaking only to North american Wolves, I think it would only be the rarest of dogs that one on one could take out a wolf. Additionally I am also by no means suggesting that north american wolves are more ferocious than european wolves. I just am unaware of documented cases of a dog killing a wolf. Here is an example for all of you from THE WOLVES OF NORTH AMERICA by Young and Goldman this is the bible of all wolf books. It was published in 1944 by two government wolf biologists during the extirpation of the wolf in the lower 48 states. pps. 73 -74: Strength, Speed, and Endurance "Occasionally, wolves that have been trapped have been know to lunge with such bodily force as to straighten a prong of a drag-hook attached to the trap chain. The usual drag-hook, of wrought iron and approximately one quarter-inch in diameter, is used to impede a trapped animal's progress........ A female wolf trapped in Santa Cruz county in southern Arizona..... succeeded in escaping with a wolf trap, to which was attached 8 feet of quarter-inch linked chain, and a steel stake pin made of gas pipe which was 18 inches long and 1 inch in diameter......... When two hounds were put on this wolf's trail, it was jumped approximately 200 yards from the place the trap was set...... the chase led through almost impassable country for about five miles with the wolf well in advance..... The weight of the trap, chain, and stake pin approximated nearly 7 pounds and the chase extended more than 6 miles...... With the encumbrance, the wolf was able to keep well ahead of the dogs while in dense thickets before reaching the valley floor, and on the latter was able to fight off the dogs as they caught up with it." My note the wolf was eventually killed with a 38 revolver by a hunter in pursuit on horseback. | ||

| | Wolves are big, smart, and ruthless. Sometimes they kill even skilled LGDs, never mind all the man-made couch sleeping, dry food fed creatures that have to bite rubber balls and stuffed toys to exercise their jaw mussles. LOL![]() Here is some reading material for those of us who can stay focused for more than a minute. http://www.kora.ch/en/proj/cdpnews/cdpnews008.htm#Top | ||

| | ok the only things I could find with a wolf in anything close to a fair fight, the wolf lost. Other than that its about 7 or 8 wolves against a defensless animal. Sorry to be hardheaded but I dont see anything that makes the wolf so superior to a game dog. | ||
