In October my American Staffordshire Terrier and American Pit Bull Terrier. got out of my back yard and ran away because I never walked them but I have learned a great lesson and my heart is scarred so please no bashing. I know what I did wrong and I have educated my self and have accepted the responsibility of owning a dog. They never made it to the pound. They were two gorgeous dogs that were socialized and great with other dogs. A few of my friends have told me that they have seen the dogs with the new owner. However, every time he is confronted about them he never gives any information to give them back. Anyway, I purchased another Amstaff to get my mind off of it. I was told by a mentor that if you want a dog to be loyal and not over friendly to never let people touch it.It can be around people but they cannot touch the dog. Recently I gave away the amstaff to a friend of mine who has a family because it was "hard wired" to like people and be very friendly. It reminded me of my two other dogs and I panicked. after doing research I was going to get a rottweiler or cane corso. Unfortunately double coat and excessive drooling are some thing I can no longer deal with. I just don't feel like doing all that cleaning up because my dogs are house dogs. I cannot clean like that for an entire decade. Long story short I hopped on the American Bully bandwagon mostly for their temperament. G-D forbid my dog ever get loose somehow is there a way to train my dog to not hop into someones car if they open the door or go home with anyone who wants it? Also how can i establish loyalty with my dog?

omg, this sounds like a total disaster!!! didn't you have dogs as a kid, are you really this uneducated??

If you are determined to get another dog you need to hook up with a professional trainer as quickly as possible!

And I can tell you, its you that will require the most training, not your dog.

Guest First and foremost, stop going the Bully breed route if you don't want dogs who are sociable to humans. Am Staffs and Pits, American Bullies and staffies LOVE people. If your mentor was a trainer, they should have told you that. Second, clean like what for a decade? Rotties and Corso's shed twice a year and aren't very extreme droolers. I don't recommend a Rottie or Corso for you after reading your post. I don't think you should be jumping into another dog anytime soon. I recommend going to as many trainers and sit in and experience as many training classes as you can, go to as many dog parks as you can, talk to as many people you can before deciding if dog ownership is really for you. It is totally fine to love the idea of something while being incapable or unfit for doing said thing. Don't take my words to harshly, it's a suggestion to prevent yours or a dogs suffering in the future. Any trainer worth a damn can help you in your questions and provide answers and reasons to back them up.

Thank you for the advice. I have done plenty of research and have purchased many books. Ive owned two rottweilers and a cane corso this is my fifth bully type of dog. I posted this in out of curiosity. At the time I lost my bullies I was going through a lot. The dogs suffered as well. My mind is right and I have one dog. I have made a commitment to ruger and he gets the best of everything. I think my post was misunderstood. I lost my two sons and admitted it was my fault. the dog after them had mange and was abused (it was so bad that he would freeze or run if he heard the words come here and i got him at 8 weeks)... sulfur shampoo and ivermectin ...when i got him i rehabilitated him socialized him and gave him to a good home. He reminded me of my lost son too much so it was a win win considering his foster mother is a vet tech. I was curious to see if there was a way to train a dog to not enter someones car. my dog will never get loose if i can help it. but things happen so i was just curious. i appreciate the responses im just clarifying that im not a [censored] with a dog. i made a mistake and and learned from it. i accept the responsibility as i always have. and will give ruger the world.

You wanted a dog not to like people and you got an American Bully? lol Dude what the hell were you thinking? First of all, why do you want a dog to hate people? And why do you think a human friendly dog won't be loyal? This doesn't make any sense at all, do you want a dog that you can take anywhere or a dog that is a liability a loaded gun at anytime? You can pretty much turn any dog into that if you don't socialize it and keep it in a crate. Then the dog will want to attack anything or anyone out of fear. Do your self a favor, get rid of your bully and read some books. Whether it's a guarding breed, or a chihuahua you need to learn to socialize the dog and understand that this only builds confidence. An American Bully will make a poor guardian because the dog is structully not build for stamina or endurance. They are so laid back and cool plus they naturally love people. YOu basically just bough the English Bulldog version of the American Pit Bull terrier for protection lol
