| | I'm writing this because I think (HOPE) that I'm STILL a newbie. My question deals with protection ability, hopefully someone that knows can help, I'm just curious. In any experiences which type makes the better protection dog the Johnson type or Scott type? I''ve heard ALL the stories of the Johnson type not being able to breathe and the Scott type more athletic. Now, does being more athletic make him a better family protector or not? Or does it matter? | ||

| Guest | Scott type dogs are too "pitish" for most peoples taste, and JDJ dogs can have extreme man and animal aggro issues. When you blend the 2, you can easily get best of both worlds. Matt Boyd, IMO, breeds the best hybrids one can hope to own. | ||

| Guest | Exactly. Also, the JDJ dogs can have some breathing problems, heart murmurs, and other endurance/performance crushing problems associated with the type. | ||

| | Love my AB/Catahoula/Black Mouth. Great combo and so far at 6 months old, she is showing great traits that are important to me. | ||

Okay I've heard the too pittish LOOK, BUT does that affect their ability to be a guard dog?

Sounds good to me, I read a previously thread of yours and rather your girl was showing protection instincts; I thought she was but I've owned a dog for less than a year, LOL so my opinion is TRUELY that an opinion NO previous knowledge.

| | Here she is having a good time exploring the mountains. She is extra alert every time we are in the wilderness, could be due the the wild life and the scent they leave behind. Is that possible? Again, we saw one guy walking up hill very slowly as it was pretty steep. She thought he was suspicious and trying to sneak on us, so she growled and barked at him. When I told her everything is ok, and spoke to the man nicely, she moved her tail and went to greet him.![]() ![]() | ||
