I would take a Boxer these days over an AB, for the simple fact that in a Boxer litter you can atleast be able to make general comments about the litter, where in an AB litter, literally anything goes from littermate to littermate, depending on the recipe making up the concoction. I don't disclaim that there are some Bad Ass AB's out there, but I will stand by my sentiment that they are too few and far between these days. This "breed" literally can be made by as many combinations as there are people willing to breed them. The idea of what the breed should be is awesome, the reality of what the breed is is anything but. No mattter what "line" or what region they are from, the "breed" is on its way down due to literally a thousand sales pitches, a million breeders and no one policing them. Now all of the sudden everybodies family had these exact dogs 200 years ago, theirs are the only pure examples with no pitbull or whatever else blood in the veins blah blah blah. The elite working AB? Which ones, the ones that are 1/2 catahoula and cur dog, the ones that are 3/4 pit, the brand new ancient WEB? Come on now, the best in the breed has been seen ages ago, and it won't be seen again. There is a guy in texas who breeds Boxers who catch hogs, do manwork AND compete in conformation show, he refuses to use anything But Boxers for catching. In Germany and Czek republic Boxers are still being bred as working machines, and let's not forget Russia, everything in Russia must work(I saw a video where they were using house terriers on game). Yes, my comment of Scotts are too pitish and Johnsons have severe man and animal aggression was blanket statements, BUT it was to tell someone of the experience I have had with thousands of bulldogs. I felt for him a hybrid would be the best, and I still stand by it. If I wanted a fighting AB, there are obvious lines out there anyone who knows anything of the breed would go to(type be damned). Same with man eaters. The good examples are too few and far between to be taken serious anymore. Again, this is based on my experiences, and again, to each their own. | Guest | I admit defeat in that I don't have the willingness or ability to try and comprise a list of Boxer accomplishments. Whether you believe what I've said or not, really doesn't matter and won't change what I know. For me, the AB is as good as a dead thing, I'll never own another one nor will I ever consider it. I'd rather make my own bulldog, atleast then I'd have the capability to honestly tell you what is in them. I have seen too many nerve issues, too many health issues, too many moronic breeders and too many lies to associate myself with. At the end of the day, if it weren't for the Boxer, ebt, apbt, eb and StBernard, thered be no AB, period. Whether or not someone has had the ability to get access to the inner workings and learn the truth or whether they are forced to swallow the loads of lies isn't up to me or anyone else to straighten out for them. Again, at the end of the day, its up to a man/woman to make up their own mind as to what THEY deem to be true, whether or not it is true can be debated. Please don't think I was being personal or talking to you, Reggie. I just don't want to, nor do I feel the need to, explain myself again and again and again and again when at the end of the day, it doesn't really matter 1 way or the other. I like some things about them and dislike some things about them. Crnosrce1 has some valid points concerning the state of the AB...but to say the boxer of all breeds trumps the AB in performance blows my mind. There are some lines of ABs that are very solid, meanwhile very few boxers that have done much of anything. | ||||

Keep the breed, Id take a german boxer over an AB any day of the week. Again, I could list other bulldog breeds Id take over the AB, I chose the boxer due to it being one of the AB's parents. | ||||

| Guest | AB's can be great dogs, no doubt. I don't know how many time or in different ways I have to say it. I started out in AB and APBT circles, they have a special place in my mind and heart. But, they don't fit my bill anymore, and I won't hesitate to tell the absolute sh!t involved in the breed to let would be owners know just what is going on in the "breed". Sure, I could name you a hundred kennels who have produced a good dog or 2, but when you produce 1000 dogs, what does that say? If anyone wants a half decent dog, sure the AB should be considered. But, if someone wants an above par dog of consistant resluts, the AB shouldn't be considered. Sorry, just my opinion. | ||||

 | Boxers are a more ruined breed than ABs IMO, however worst vs worst I might say ABs "win" this "contest". This does not mean however that both breeds can't spit out world beating champion dogs. They can and do. Not really debatable. Finding a pure boxer in perfect shape is a tall order, having been "pure bred" for conformation for longer, it's muzzle is truly deformed to the detriment of it's function almost as a rule. The boxer breeds flaws are irrelevant to these dogs, which did not inherit the deformed jaw, and did not inherit the health problems, at all. No breed should be blacklisted, it should be about what they can offer, not what they can't. The "can'ts" will be whittled away by genuine performance breeding. Once the performance breeding has sorted the wheat from the chaff, you won't be like "this wheats ok, but wish I used a better breed to begin with then it would be better". Doesn't work that way. Wheat is wheat and chaff is chaff. Good dogs that live up to the demands of a task are good dogs that live up to the demands of a task. At worst using more ruined breeds to begin with will result in more culling (be it by the breeder or the task itself), but the good dogs at the end will be much of a muchness regardless of their breed origins. | ||||
